Do I Need a GP Referral for a Private Gynaecology Scan?

If you’ve been experiencing symptoms like pelvic pain, irregular periods, or simply want reassurance about your gynaecological health, you might be wondering how to access a scan- and whether you need to see your GP first. Here’s what you need to know.

No referral required

You do not need a GP referral to book a private gynaecology ultrasound scan with us. You can book directly, at a time that suits you, without waiting for a GP appointment first.

What does the scan involve?

Our private gynaecology scans assess the uterus, ovaries, and pelvic structures. They’re carried out by fully qualified, HCPC registered sonographers within our CQC registered, nurse-led clinic- so you’re receiving care that’s safe, thorough, and clinically governed throughout.

We understand that attending for a gynaecology scan can feel like a personal and sometimes anxious experience. Your comfort, dignity, and reassurance are always our priority, and our team will talk you through everything before, during, and after your appointment.

What happens after the scan?

You’ll receive a clear, structured written report following your scan, along with guidance on what the results mean. If anything needs further attention, we’ll support you with clear next steps and, where appropriate, signpost you to NHS services.

Who is this scan suitable for?

This scan may be helpful if you’re experiencing:

• Pelvic pain

• Irregular or heavy periods

• Symptoms associated with PCOS

• Or simply want reassurance about your gynaecological health
